O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery is pleased to announce the promotion of Sean Capiaux from Chief Operating Officer to President of their Napa Valley Winery and Estate Vineyards. Capiaux has served as winemaker for the winery since the inaugural vintage in 2000 and has created a remarkable line -up of mountain Cabernet Sauvignons for the last 14 years. In his new capacity as President, Capiaux will be responsible for the management of the Howell Mountain winery and also oversee the 110 acres of estate vineyards on Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder and in Oakville. Capiaux will continue to serve as winemaker.
Founding winemaker, Sean Capiaux, has established an impressive and notable career over the past twenty six years at prominent wineries around the globe. He graduated from California State University, Fresno (BS, Enology; minor in Chemistry) in the late-80's and began his career at Jordan Winery in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. Sean traveled to Perth, Australia to work on the winemaking team at the Houghton Winery and later returned to the United States to become the assistant winemaker at Pine Ridge Winery in the Stags Leap district. Peter Michael Winery tapped him to become their assistant winemaker where he worked for four years. Sean spent several years as a bicoastal winemaker attending to wines both on Long Island and in California before coming to O’Shaughnessy.
Sean also produces the acclaimed Capiaux Cellars wines that focus on Pinot Noir sourced from the Santa Lucia Highlands, Sonoma Coast, and Russian River.
Betty O’Shaughnessy, founder and proprietor attributes much of the wineries ongoing success to Sean’s winemaking talents and ability to showcase the unique flavors and textures of her estate properties.
