Charles Smith Wines Adds to Sales Team

Date: 09/21/12

Charles Smith announced today the addition of Misty Daniels and Kate Shorr, both joining the company’s sales team that represents K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines, Secco Italian Bubbles, and Charles & Charles. This growth is indicative of Smith’s intent to make 2012 a “big year” for the company, now totaling five national and international sales representatives on the team.

With the transition to Young’s Market Company as the winery’s distributor in the state of California, Misty Daniels, while based in the San Francisco area, will manage distributor and account relations while continuing to build awareness and aggressively seek new placements in both California and Nevada, in addition to Hawaii and Arizona. Daniels, a Minnesota native, began working in wine sales in 2003, eventually moving to California in 2008 to manage the northern California market for Folio Fine Wine Partners. With her experience and Certified Specialist of Wine accreditation, Daniels is eager to reintroduce the Charles Smith family of brands to her region, “Once someone tastes the wine, sees the label, reads the scores, and then the just makes sense for all involved, ” Daniels adds.

Kate Shorr, who joins the team with 19 years of experience in the industry, will manage the Great Lakes region as Sales Director. Most recently managing on-premise national accounts in the Midwest for Constellation Wines, Shorr’s background also includes sales experience for Diageo, Kendall Jackson and smaller Chicago-based distributors; Shorr also became a Certified Sommelier in 2007. When the opportunity was presented to Shorr to work with the portfolio of wines from Charles Smith, she was thrilled, “I am very intrigued by the fact that Charles doesn't just make wines, but rather creates them, while never compromising in any aspect of what he does. He handcrafts and perfects his wines, giving them their own personalities. Each wine that Charles releases has a reason for being.”

Owner and winemaker Charles Smith states, “With the addition of Misty and Kate, this completes the Charles Smith Wines team, and what a great team it is. I feel fortunate to get to work with these two excellent people. Mark my words: Charles Smith Wines, and Washington wines, will be better for it.” Both Daniels and Shorr will start with the company in early September.

Charles Smith, based in Walla Walla, Washington has received global acclaim including “Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years” in Wine & Spirits Magazine and “Winery of the Year” in their annual buying guide. Smith was also named “Winemaker of the Year” by Food & Wine Magazine (in 2009) and by Seattle Magazine (in 2010).
