KENWOOD, Calif., October 24, 2013 – Landmark Vineyards announces the debut of the 2012 Overlook Pinot Noir, a new addition to the Sonoma winery’s award-winning Overlook program. The Pinot Noir offering serves as a counterpart to Landmark’s signature Overlook Chardonnay, applying the same philosophy of sourcing the best grapes from the finest vineyards in California to create handcrafted blends that reflect the best of any given vintage.
Founded by the John Deere family in 1974, Landmark Vineyards is most widely known for producing hand-crafted Chardonnays, including the Overlook. Yet for over 20 years now, Landmark has also produced single vineyard designate and limited production Pinot Noirs. The new Overlook Pinot Noir blends fruit from vineyards in cool climate sites in San Luis Obispo, Sonoma and Monterey Counties. The wine is the first Landmark Pinot Noir to be made available nationally and presents an exceptional value for Pinot-philes.
“In the past, our single-vineyard and Sonoma Coast pinot noirs have been primarily available only at our Sonoma Valley tasting room,” says David Bowman, vice president of marketing for Landmark Vineyards. “Our winemaker, Greg Stach, and the team really wanted to craft a pinot noir that follows the same methodology as our signature Overlook Chardonnay: a cuvée that reflects the best of California’s vintage from select coastal vineyard sites from Santa Barbara to Sonoma.”
For over 12 years, Greg Stach has made pinot noir for Landmark Vineyards and helped establish the winery’s Pinot Noir program. “The Overlook Pinot Noir is a medium-bodied Pinot Noir that exhibits bright acidity, balanced with softly integrated tannins and aromas of ripe plum, wild strawberry, blackberry, violet, all-spice and black cherry,” says Stach.
Landmark Vineyards’ Overlook Pinot Noir (SRP $25) will feature elegant hand calligraphy on the label that reflects the handcrafted nature of the wine which is aged exclusively in small French oak barrels. The 2012 vintage will debut in California, followed by national distribution in major markets later this year and into 2014.
