The grand finale to a North Bay Toys for Tots donation drive “wine-country style” that featured a head-to-head competition between wineries of the Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley to see which wine region could fill a five-ton grape gondola with the most toys and coats for local children in need, will culminate with a weigh-in this week.
Hosted by Jordan Vineyard & Winery of Alexander Valley and J Vineyards & Winery of Russian River Valley, this three-week Toys for Tots drive will culminate with a live weigh-in event this Friday, where community members will watch each team’s behemoth, vintage grape gondola—painted like Santa’s sleighs and overflowing with toys—pull up to the Jordan Winery scale house for the big weigh-in. The wine region with the most donations by weight wins bragging rights and the reward of giving back this holiday season. J sparkling wine and sweets from the Jordan chef will be served.
After several years of donating to Toys for Tots, Jordan Vineyard & Winery hosted its first gondola toy drive in 2011, pitting different departments within the company against one another. Nearly 1,000 pounds of toys were donated by Jordan employees and Jordan Estate Rewards members—the largest donation Toys for Tots received last year. As Jordan’s 40th anniversary year draws to the close, John Jordan decided to expand his winery’s annual toy drive and enlisted his sister Judy of J Vineyards & Winery to co-host a friendly competition between their wine regions. Donations of new, unwrapped toys and coats for children and teens will be accepted at Jordan and J now through Friday, December 14, at 12 p.m. For more information, please visit http://blog.jordanwinery.com/2012/11/2012-holiday-toy-drive-competition-two-wine-regions-square-off/.
The event will be held Friday, Dec. 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jordan Vineyard & Winery crushpad, 1474 Alexander Valley Road, Healdsburg, CA 95448. Call (707) 431-5250 for more information.
