Essential Duties and Responsibilities
I. Safety
1. Follows winery, department, and legally mandated safety policies and procedures.
2. Maintains a clean and orderly workspace and environment
3. Familiar with the content and emergency response procedures contained in all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
4. Makes certain all equipment is operating in a safe manner and brings malfunctioning equipment to the attention of their supervisor immediately

II. Quality Control
1. Responsible for maintaining proper cellar sanitation, assuring all cellar equipment (tanks, hoses, barrels, working surfaces, equipment, etc.) is properly sanitized before use.
2. Offers recommendations about new methods, equipment and procedures to improve operation efficiency and wine quality.
3. Performs a sanitation check on all vessels (barrel, tank, etc.) prior to being filled with wine. Notifies Cellar Master of any issues.
4. Responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of all cellar and production equipment, assuring proper maintenance protocols are adhered to.
5. Checks wine for QC standards while performing cellar operations as requested.

III. Production Operations
1. Able to perform all basic cellar sanitation operations including, but not limited to the following:
a. Cellar Sanitation Operations: tank (wood and stainless steel) sanitation, equipment sanitation, barrel steaming and care
b. Crush Sanitation Operation: crush equipment sanitation, pump over set up sanitation, inoculation set up sanitation, tank (wood and stainless steel) sanitation
2. Actively trains to independently perform the following cellar operations
a. Cellar Operations: topping, racking, transfers, loading and unloading tankers, all additions, tank/equipment/barrel sanitation, and sample collecting
b. Crush Operations: fruit intake and processing, pump overs, juice/ferment racking and assists in pressing operations.
3. Bottling Operations: actively operates forklift for warehousing operations (loading and unloading glass, loading and unloading case goods).
4. Can learn above operations and demonstrate independent competency in a reasonable amount of time
5. Follows example set by Cellar Master and senior cellar employees regarding winery performance standards.
6. Leads by example with interns, demonstrates winery performance and safety standards
7. Suggests methods and/or systems to improve cellar operations, processes, efficiencies, and communications.
8. Makes recommendations for modifications to cellar procedures and equipment

Qualifications
•  1 year of full-time production experience or 1 harvest experiences with a premium winery and the ability to perform all stated cellar operations
•  Ability to work well with a diverse population and with all levels of management
•  Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assigned tasks
•  Proficiency in all high-end winemaking equipment, techniques, and processes
•  Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking) with Spanish proficiency preferred.
•  Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
•  Dedication to confidentiality, professionalism, and maturity
•  Strong attention to detail
•  Ability to drive a forklift and become forklift certified
•  Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
•  Ability to solve problems
•  Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and take direction
•  Good written and verbal communication skills
•  Ability to understand and perform basic math and basic measurements
•  Ability to work in small, confined spaces and high places
•  Ability to work extended shifts

Physical and Mental Requirements
•  Full body mobility: Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hand tools, reach and raise hands above the head, climb stairs, kneel or crouch, talk, hear, and accurately taste and smell.
•  Able to lift up to 100 lbs
•  Able to lift and carry 50 lbs over short distances
•  Hearing ability adequate to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers.
•  Ability to work in dynamic range of temperatures and weather conditions.
•  Able to work in and outdoors.
•  Can sustain extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors.
•  Able to work irregular and variable hours and days.
•  Able to wear safely and effectively all require personal protective equipment.
•  Capable of safely and effectively operating a forklift.
