Job Description:

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Bottling Manager manages and directs winery bottling operations. This role is responsible for bottling, quality control procedures, bottling operations performance metrics and finite scheduling. Accountable for daily/monthly reporting and metrics tracking of bottling operations including root cause analysis on exceptions. Oversees equipment and line sanitation requirements and ensures proper operation and care of equipment. Responsible for hiring, training, developing, evaluating, counseling and discipline of personnel. This role is approximately 75% on the production floor and 25% in office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Bottling Operations:

Responsible for carrying out all bottling assignments as scheduled in a safe and efficient manner
Ensure materials and application are in compliance with the product specifications.
Perform pre-production line sterilization and post production sanitation to wine maker’s specs.
Ensures correct and complete information is entered for use by the case and bottle printers.
Changeovers of bottling line equipment to different packages. Check and ensure proper set up of lines and materials
Adhere to all quality control specifications. Understand and comply with all sustainability guidelines, SQF, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes.
Ensure all packaging elements are correct per the specifications prescribed for each individual package format.
Ensure all maintenance/ repair of bottling line equipment in line with manufacturers guidelines/schedules. Verifies cleanliness of bottling line.
Keep up with schedule while maintaining product quality.
Ordering of parts and consumables used on the bottling line by direct dealing with vendors.
Perform repairs and adjustments to bottling equipment during production to ensure line is running efficiently.
Partner cross-functionality on new product development and testing new materials.
Partner with planning teams to translate weekly bottling schedule into finite schedule by day.

People Management:

Responsible for hiring, training, developing, evaluating, counseling and discipline of personnel.
Maintain effective relationship with other departments.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward safety.
Ensure work is performed in a safe manner and all safety rules, regulations and instructions are in compliance including use of PPE.
Report and investigate workplace injuries in a timely manner; identifies ways to eliminate risk of reoccurrence; complete audits; conduct monthly safety meetings and trainings; maintain compliance with hazardous materials program; inform/train new employees on specific safety aspects and procedures with the department and location; participate in monthly management safety meetings.
Ensure there is cross training being conducted to always have a backup for any position
Manage timecards and leave requests through payroll systems
Evaluate your line employee's performance constantly, with a written evaluation yearly.
Schedule, as required and attend all required safety meetings.

Reporting and Metrics:

Reporting of daily shift production along with other required documentation leveraging bottling line performance and exception reporting systems.
Monthly reporting and metrics tracking of Bottling Operations including root cause analysis on exceptions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise bottling line personnel while ensuring the bottling line is producing at peak efficiency
Member of Safety Committee
Member of HACCP/SQF Committee
Member of Crisis Management Team

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree in related business or technical field
5 Years – Experience in Field or similar manufacturing environment
Experience with standard glass bottling lines, high-speed lines is essential
Solid understanding of PLC
4 Years – Experience in leadership role
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

APICS or lean management certification and experience highly desired
Accredited minimum 8 hour HACCP training. Minimum 8 hour Food Hygiene training as part of formal qualifications or through course

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Supervisory experience in production atmosphere
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to trouble shoot issues
Strong desire to see bottling line run smoothly and efficiently
Leadership level reporting and metrics tracking
Wine industry or production experience desirable
Solid understanding of the end to end supply chain
Strong data visualization skills and understanding of how technology can be used to improve efficiency and drive out costs
Intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, and other core business applications
Experience with maintenance logging software such as FIIX
Superior judgment to quickly prioritize opportunities and build consensus upon
Excellent communication skills and comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization
