Zepponi & Company Advises on Sale of Historic Valley of the Moon Estate Property

Posted on March 09, 2020

The historic estate property within the Sonoma Valley, which was home to Valley of the Moon Winery, has been acquired by the Bundschu Company from West Coast Wine Partners.  Located along Highway 12, the property includes a large production winery with welcoming hospitality areas and significant vineyard acreage.  The Bundschu Company will start immediately on converting the property, the new home of Abbot’s Passage Winery & Mercantile.  Zepponi & Company served as the exclusive financial advisor to West Coast Wine Partners.

Originally settled by Mariano Vallejo in 1861, the property includes Zinfandel vines planted in the 1940s and has a historic barrel aging building dating back to 1863.  While the hospitality space will undergo select renovations, the Bundschu Company is committed to maintaining and preserving the historic integrity of the property.  “As multigenerational Sonoma vintners, the Bundschu family is honored to take the reins from the Stewarts and become stewards of another incredible piece of Sonoma Valley winemaking history,” says Jeff Bundschu, president of Bundschu Company. “We’ve been an integral part of this community since 1858 and we’re excited to continue our commitment to the region, producing quality wines and experiences for our guests.”  The acquisition reinforces the Bundschu Company’s commitment to the Sonoma Valley as they set the stage to continue to produce quality wines and experiences relevant for generations to come.

West Coast Wine Partners retains the Valley of the Moon business and will continue selling its wines both direct-to-consumer and via wholesale distribution.   Valley of the Moon operations will move to their sister property, Lake Sonoma, located just off the Sonoma Square.  “We could not be more thrilled that this historic estate is being passed to the hands of such a dedicated family here in the Sonoma Valley,” says Tony Stewart, president of West Coast Wine Partners. “We are excited to retain the Valley of the Moon brand and will continue to craft wines under this label that best reflect its inherent Sonoma personality.”
