Curious Cork Imports to be Exclusive U.S. Importer of La Capitelle du Domaine de Baron'arques

Posted on November 05, 2015

Curious Cork Imports and Domaine de Baron’arques are pleased to announce the establishment of an exclusive agreement for the importation and distribution of La Capitelle du Domaine de Baron’arques in the United States.

Located in the commune of Saint-Polycarpe, near Limoux in Languedoc, Domaine de Baron’arques is a very old estate which dates back to at least the 17th century. The estate was bought by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her two sons, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, in December 1998. The vineyard and winemaking facilities have since been extensively renovated. In 2003, Domaine de Baron’arques benefited from a fortunate conjunction of circumstances: the wine proved to be of very high quality, and the Domaine was awarded the appellation AOC Limoux Rouge. In 2008 the estate’s owners decided to produce a second red wine, La Capitelle du Domaine de Baron’arques, then in 2009 a fine white wine, le Chardonnay Domaine de Baron’arques. The two wines, both with the AOC Limoux appellation, were an immediate success. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave the 2012 Domaine de Baron’arques Red 93 Points, stating that the wine “knocks it out of the park” and that “this is an estate to watch!” Thanks to the quality of its terroir and its wines, the estate has taken its rightful place alongside the Rothschild family’s other renowned estates, including the illustrious Château Mouton Rothschild.

Based in Denver, Colorado, and Napa, CA, Curious Cork Imports has grown from its home state of Colorado to 22 markets in just 18 months, and has become known for its sophisticated marketing and brand building capabilities in the premium European wine space. “We started working in Limoux in 2013 when we first started developing our Faire la Fête sparkling wine, which has become a leader in our portfolio,” says Curious Cork CEO Peter Baedeker. “Over time we developed a strong connection to the region and respect for the world-class wines that can be produced there. This passion for Limoux led us to conversations with the management at Domaine de Baron’arques. The opportunity to work with Domaine de Baron’arques on building the brand in America is an incredible honor.”

“We’re excited to begin this partnership with Curious Cork Imports in the U.S.” says Domaine de Baron’arques GM Vincent Montigaud.

Curious Cork Imports will also have non-exclusive importation and distribution rights on Domaine de Baron’arques premium red wine and le Chardonnay Domaine de Baron’arques. La Capitelle du Domaine de Baron’arques will retail at ($35), and Domaine de Baron’arques premium red wine and le Chardonnay Domaine de Baron’arques will each retail at ($65).
