Nomacorc Introduces The NomaSelector™
Nomacorc, the global market leader in the alternative wine closure category, today announced the market introduction of the NomaSelector™, an innovative software tool that uses a scientific model to recommend a closure tailored for a specific wine.
Based on factors such as grape variety, region, winemaking style and desired shelf life, the NomaSelector™ provides a scientific approach to closure choice, enabling winemakers to determine the optimum closure for their wines to age in the most consistent, fault-free manner.
The breakthrough model was developed using conclusions from Nomacorc’s oxygen management research programs at leading academic wine institutes around the world. The consortium studied the impact of oxygen ingress through the closure on the development of wines and unraveled the complex role different winemaking practices and oxygen exposure regimes play in the optimal sensory expression of different varietals.

The NomaSelector™ guides winemakers through a structured questionnaire on the grape variety and winemaking practices used, as well as the intended shelf life, storage and distribution for a wine. Using the data submitted, the model uses an algorithm to determine the best Nomacorc Select Series closure for a wine.
Results from the NomaSelector™ are exclusive to Nomacorc’s newest line of closures – the Select Series. Tailored to eliminate fault in wines post-bottling and provide solutions for wines with complex oxygen management requirements, the Select Series expands and extends the existing range of oxygen transfer rates (OTRs) available from previous Nomacorc products.
The Select Series portfolio currently includes the Select 700, Select 500 and Select 300, which features Nomacorc’s lowest commercially available OTR. Early in 2012, Nomacorc will launch the Select 100, a closure designed specifically to prevent reduction in lighter, fruit-forward style wines.
