Discover the performances of Nomacorc closures with Master Classes conducted by Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007, at Vinexpo 2017
Nîmes, France (June 1, 2017)—Nomacorc and Tasted 100% Blind have announced that they will organize four outstanding Master Classes with Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007, during Vinexpo 2017.
Every day at Vinexpo at the Tasted 100% Blind booth, Andreas Larsson will be special tasting presenting the same wine but protected with different closures, encouraging guests to “Taste the Difference.”
The idea is to taste the same wine—bottled on the same date and under the same conditions—using three types of Nomacorc Select Green wine closures, each with different oxygen permeability. The goal of these experiments is not to prove that one closure tops another, but to underline the importance of the closure. This little piece of the wine package often gets overlooked. A small change in a wine closure’s oxygen ingress can have a big impact on taste.
“The main message of the Taste the Difference is to show the proof in the glass,” said Stéphane Vidal, Vice President Enology & Wine Quality Solutions at Nomacorc | Vinventions. “We can tell nice stories about the impact of the closures on the wine, but at the end of the day, for the consumer what really counts is the wine in the glass.”
You don’t have to wait a long time before to see the differences, either. “Typically, with white wines, after three months the tasters can already see differences,” said Dr. Vidal. Even people who have never heard of oxygen transfer rate, or OTR, can tell there are differences between the wines.
In the tasting trials during the Master Classes, wines will be poured blind just as Andreas Larsson is doing for his other tastings. However, the focus is not on the wine itself or on the grape varieties—the participants will be asked first to describe differences between the wines and then to choose their preference.
