Cork Supply USA Supports UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology

Posted on November 30, 2016

Cork Supply USA is proud to announce a donation to the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology for the purchase of required textbooks for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Enology VEN 124, a wine production class. The company will give $6,800 to provide 68 copies of the highly regarded industry text Principles and Practices of Winemaking.

Dr. David E. Block, UC Davis Department Chair, Viticulture and Enology, said, “This is a great idea and a very generous gift from Cork Supply to our students. Principles and Practices of Winemaking is a key text that students use for multiple courses in our program, but especially wine production. It is the most comprehensive text of its kind in the world, and one that many of our students will keep at their desk for their whole career—not just in school. We thank Cork Supply for their continued support of our students and our programs.”

Professors Roger Boulton, Vernon L. Singleton, Ralph E. Kunkee and Linda Bisson—current instructor of Enology VEN 124--are all co-authors of the textbook. The course includes a winemaking lab component at the university’s Teaching and Research Winery, the most advanced and sustainable winery in the world:

Edward Kronfil, first-year graduate student in winemaking said, “To me, this textbook is a sign of welcome—both to UC Davis, as well as to the wine industry.”

James Herwatt, Cork Supply CEO and UC Davis alumnus, said, “We’re pleased to be able to offer financial support to students interested in learning about winemaking. We hope it helps start them off on long, rewarding careers in the industry.”

Principles and Practices of Winemaking is available through the UC Davis bookstore: or through Amazon:
