Winemaker Caroline Hoogenboom Joins the Team at Persimmon Creek Vineyards

Persimmon Creek Vineyards has welcomed noted wine professional Caroline Hoogenboom to their team as Winemaker.

Hoogenboom earned her Diplôme National d’Oenologue from the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France and has worked at wineries all over the world. Most notably and most recently, Hoogenboom was Assistant Winemaker at Dana Estates in St. Helena California where the 2007 Dana Estates Lotus Vineyard recently received 100 points from wine guru Robert Parker.

Her credentials include extensive hands-on apprenticeships which complement her academic training. From Spencer Roloson Winery to Château de Pibarnon in Bandol, France to Clarendon Winery in McLaren Vale, Australia, she has worked in diverse climates and operations. With a firm respect for the traditions of winemaking, Hoogenboom seeks to make wine with as little intervention as possible, allowing the wine to express itself and the vineyard from which it is made.

“Persimmon Creek Vineyards’ approach is grounded and real; it’s more of a French approach than many wineries I’ve seen,” she says. “The vineyard, uniquely situated at a high elevation in Georgia, is very interesting. I am excited to see what the vineyard is capable of and to make the best wines possible.”

Hoogenboom will oversee all elements of the winemaking process with the owners of Persimmon Creek Vineyards Sonny and Mary Ann Hardman.

Persimmon Creek Vineyards is a boutique, family-owned winery located on 110 acres of rolling farmland at 2,100 feet elevation in Clayton, Georgia. Wines, including Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Seyval Blanc, are produced on premise from 100% estate grown grapes, with many processes – picking, crushing, bottling, corking and labeling – done by hand. Persimmon Creek Vineyards, which converted to the use of solar power in September of 2009, is committed to being an ecologically responsible operation.

Persimmon Creek wines are served in more than 25 leading restaurants and hotels in Atlanta and the southeast including The Cloister at Sea Island, Bluepointe, Chops Lobster Bar, St. Regis, Woodfire Grill and many more. Private tastings, educational tours and custom luncheons at the vineyard are available by appointment only.
