Wine Industry Exec Named CEO for Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County

Posted on September 20, 2019

Santa Rosa, Calif.—Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County has announced the selection of its new Chief Executive Officer, Harold Duncan, who will assume the post on October 1.Duncan retired in late 2018 after thirty plus years serving in executive leadership roles with F. Korbel and Bros, Inc – most recently as Senior Vice President of Operations. The national search for Habitat’s new CEO was led by the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership.

As CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County, Duncan will oversee all operations of the affiliate, including The Habitat Center factory and trades training center opened this summer at SOMO Village in Rohnert Park, completion of two homes the affiliate is building in Graton, and launch of its largest build year ever when it begins construction on 26 new affordable homes in 2020.

“With over 200 additional homes in our pre-development pipeline across Sonoma County, Habitat is thrilled to have someone like Harold assume the role of CEO. He has extensive experience guiding organizational growth and change, including the application of new technologies to expand capacity – which is at the heart of our current strategies,” said Tim Leach. Leach has been serving as Habitat’s Interim CEO and will resume his role as Chairman of Habitat’s Board of Directors with Duncan’s appointment.

Duncan shares that his powerful personal experience with the wildfires of 2017 and deep reflection since his retirement from Korbel inspired him to seek the opportunity with Habitat, noting “My wife and I had a life changing event on October 9, 2017. Our home was destroyed in the Tubbs fire. I know the helpless feeling of not having a home of your own. I want to help bring hope to the many other families still desperately in need of housing in our community. I am ready for this new beginning.”

With the aid of over 1,700 volunteers a year, Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County has been helping families and individuals in need build homes they can afford for over 35 years. Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County is an affiliate member of Habitat for Humanity International, a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and 70 countries. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
