Welcome Dr. Daniel Petree, New Interim Dean of the SBE

Posted on July 01, 2019

Dr. Daniel L. Petree joined the SBE on June 3, 2019. If you haven't met our new interim dean, we encourage you to stop by. Here is a brief message from Dr. Petree:

"I have known about and admired the School of Business and Economics for several years. The School's brand is strong, particularly due to its success at integrating world class business and economics education with a vibrant partnership with the wine business. The SBE is an exemplar of the value of distinctive mission and identity, an asset that many other very good business schools find difficult to match. So, when Provost Vollendorf invited me to join the SSU team I was delighted to say "yes."

In my relatively short time getting to know better the School of Business and Economics I was struck by the depth of commitment to student success that seems to be part of the school's culture and its DNA. It was my privilege to attend the first Seawolf Pitch Competition in April, after which I had the pleasure of meeting many faculty and staff.

The University and the School have a lot going for them--a strong culture, a great brand, a very positive value proposition, engaged and inspiring leadership, close relationships with the civic and business communities, a proud legacy, a team of dedicated scholars and staff and a robust new strategic plan, all providing the foundation for an even more successful future. I will consider my time at Sonoma State University successful if we are able to continue the current momentum, develop even stronger relationships with the business community, especially the wine business, and prepare for transition to a new permanent dean. I look forward to our time together."
