Sommelier Jon Cross Joins Patina Restaurant

Los Angeles, Calif.—Patina, the flagship restaurant of Patina Restaurant Group, located inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles, is pleased to announce Jon Cross as the new head sommelier. Cross joins Patina after serving as the corporate wine director for Culinary Lab Restaurant Group, (Hinoki and the Bird, Rosaline, Black Ship) in Los Angeles.

Patina has long been celebrated for its wine list of more than 1,500 selections with fabulous old and young Burgundies, Bordeaux and Rhône bottlings. It runs particularly deep in California, where Chef and Founder Joachim Splichal has collected wines for decades including verticals of “California cult wines,” assembled while building friendships with local winemakers. Patina also has developed selections of exotic, lesser-known wines for guests to discover. Under Cross’s oversight, Patina’s wine program will continue to explore and share the best wine varietals that effortlessly complement Executive Chef Andreas Roller’s contemporary and globally inspired dishes.

Cross got his start in the restaurant business through his family-run restaurant, which fostered his love of the industry. He became passionate about the complexity of taste and the art of flavor pairings. He started out as a self-study sommelier, but his interest in the profession deepened as he began getting certified with fellow oenophiles.

Patina’s wine list has received the Wine Spectator Grand Award every year since 1994—making Patina the longest-winning wine list in Los Angeles. This intensified the challenge of selecting an adventurous and curious sommelier. Cross brings years of experience to Patina, including a previous position as a sommelier at Kendall’s Brasserie, a Patina Restaurant Group concept.
