Ward Insurance Names Janis Pate to Lead Ag & Wine Industry Business

EUGENE, Ore.---- Janis Pate, ARM, vineyard owner and long-time insurance executive has joined Ward Insurance as a lead Senior Risk Specialist focused on agriculture and specifically, the wine industry.

“Janis knows the agriculture and wine industries like no other professional working in the insurance industry today,” said Erik Finrow, President and Agent, Ward Insurance. “Because she works in her own vineyard and has decades of executive experience in the insurance industry, Janis knows what agriculture, and specifically wine customers need to protect their property and crops.”

Pate owns and operates Arlyn Vineyard ion Calkins Lane in Newberg, Ore. She grows grapes to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In addition, Pate has extensive professional commercial insurance experience having led risk assessment, identity theft and privacy protection services for Bank of America Consumer Operations in Portland.

“I am pleased to join the Ward team and to bring my unique blend of experience to customers in agriculture and wine,” Pate said. “I know what insurance coverage vineyard owners, farmers, and ranchers needs, because I am one of them.”

Previously, she served as Senior Vice President with Willis Insurance Services for Western Oregon and was a Senior Vice President for Casualty Underwriting and performance management for American International Group.

Before starting her career as a Senior Risk Analyst with The Walt Disney Company, Pate graduated from Washington State University with a degree in finance. She also earned a professional certificate in enology from the University of California-Davis.

Pate is involved in several charities, including serving as the hospitality chair for Web.com Portland Golf Open and is a running buddy for the Girls on the Run program. Additionally, her vineyard participates in the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program in Yamhill County.
