Schlatter Family Wines Appoints Charlie Plummer as National Sales Manager

Posted on July 25, 2014

Schlatter Family Wines (SFW) Proprietor René Schlatter announced the promotions of Simon Faury to Winemaker for the iconic St. Helena winery, Merryvale Vineyards, and Jeff Crawford as Winemaker at SFW’s southern Carneros property, Starmont Winery and Vineyards. To support Merryvale and Starmont wines in the marketplace, Charlie Plummer has been appointed National Sales Manager.

Based in Napa Valley, Plummer brings 15 years of wine industry experience to his work at Schlatter Family Wines for Merryvale and Starmont. Plummer began his career in the world of wine sales with Humphrey Brown/Sebastiani Vineyards, moving on to sales management positions for Constellation Brands, Beam Wine Estates, Icon Estates and The Hess Collection Winery. Most recently, Plummer served as the Western Regional Manager for Jackson Family Wines. In his new position, Plummer is responsible for overseeing all national sales and distribution for Merryvale and Starmont wines.

Merryvale Vineyards is characterized by small lots; only 12-15,000 cases of wine are produced each year. Merryvale wines are sold through the winery, winery mailing list and select restaurants and retailers.

“We’re making an investment in building dedicated, experienced teams at Merryvale Vineyards and Starmont Winery to create wines of distinction that are true to their origins,” explains Schlatter. “Simon brings a level of experience and finesse that fits with Merryvale Vineyards Bordeaux-centric portfolio and Jeff has been an integral part of the winemaking team at Starmont Winery for a number of years. We’re thrilled to encourage two young, inspiring and determined winemakers. With the addition of Charlie’s experience and relationships both locally and across the country, we’re confident we’ll continue to see success and growth in the market.”

While the new focus at Starmont Winery and Vineyards is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the winery continues to produce small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Rosé from Pinot Noir. Starmont wines are available nationally and are also sold online and via the wine club.

Schlatter Family Wines was established in 1996 when Swiss-native and family patriarch, Jack Schlatter, purchased historic Merryvale Vineyards and the 25-acre Schlatter Family Estate vineyard just east of St. Helena. Schlatter Family Wines is the privately held parent company integrating the well-regarded Merryvale Vineyards and Starmont Winery portfolios.
