Jay Bouncristiani Named Krupp Brothers' Winemaker

Posted on August 06, 2013

Krupp Brothers announces the appointment of Jay Buoncristiani as its new winemaker. Buoncristiani co-owns and has made wine for Buoncristiani Family Winery since 1999. He began his career at the Hess Collection Winery in 1996 and in five years rose through the ranks to become their winemaker at the age of 26.

Buoncristiani has been working with Dr. Jan Krupp's Stagecoach Vineyard fruit for 14 years and his vast experience with mountain fruit is one reason why Jan is so thrilled to work with him.

“Jay is an amazing talent who has already created beautiful wine with Stagecoach fruit,” says Dr. Krupp. “I am looking forward to the superb wines I know he will craft for Krupp Brothers.”

Buoncristiani’s wines have earned high praise and top rankings. The Wine Spectator named Buoncristiani wines a “Rising Star of Napa Cabernet.” Wine Enthusiast rated 2005 OPC #25 in the Top 100 wines of the world and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave 2006 The Core 97 points, lauding it as “one of the truly magnificent wines of 2006.”

The partnership with Jay offers Krupp Brothers a wonderful opportunity to produce wine close to home. The Caves at Soda Canyon will provide a state-of-the art facility for Krupp Brothers to make its wines within a short distance of Stagecoach Vineyard.

Tres Goetting, the former winemaker for Krupp Brothers, begins a new position at Robert Biale Vineyards. While Tres will be missed at Krupp Brothers, this is an exciting opportunity for him. Judging from his creations for Krupp Brothers, expect marvelous Biale Zinfandels in the years to come.
