ZAP Announces New Board of Directors

Zinfandel Advocates & Producers has announced its new Board of Directors for 2012-2013. Continuing as President is Robert Biale of Robert Biale Vineyards (Napa); the Vice President is Mark Vernon of Ridge Vineyards (Bay Area); Secretary is Chris Leamy of Terra d’Oro Winery (Sierra Foothills) and Treasurer is Bruce Walker of Starry Night Vineyard (At Large). Biale is serving from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

The Board of Directors consists of ZAP members who represent the diverse Zinfandel growing regions: from July 2012 through June 2013, new members on the Board are Kevin Riley (Proulx Wines, Central Coast), Randle Johnson (Artezin Wines, At Large), Robert Biale (Robert Biale Vineyards, Napa), Jonathan Lachs (Cedarville, Sierra Foothills), Kent Knight (At Large), Joel Peterson (Ravenswood, S. Sonoma), Kent Rosenblum (Rock Wall Wine Company, Greater Bay Area), Bernie Scarinzi (At Large) and Miro Tcholakov (Trentadue, N. Sonoma).

The nine continuing Board members are Erin Cline (Three Wine Company, At Large), Duane Dappen (D-Cubed Cellars, Napa), Tim Holdener (Macchia, Lodi/Central Valley), Chris Leamy (Terra d’Oro, At Large), Rich Parducci, (McNab Ridge, Mendocino & Lake), Pete Seghesio (Seghesio, N. Sonoma), Mark Vernon (Ridge Vineyards, N. Sonoma) and Bruce Walker (Starry Night Winery, At Large).

The Board is directing an array of programs for 2012-2013, including the 22nd Annual Zinfandel Advocates & Producers Festival on January 31-February 2, 2013 in San Francisco: details about the Festival are updated regularly at Early bird tickets are available until September 20; tickets for all events go on sale online website in October, 2012; the Festival consists of Epicuria: Food and Zin Pairings on January 31; Flights on February 1; Winemakers’ Dinner on February 1 and The Grand Tasting on February 2. This is the world’s largest single varietal tasting.

Since 2005, Zinfandel Advocates & Producers has captivated 717 members on an annual cruise, hosted by Zinfandel winemakers, with a schedule full of Zinfandel tastings as well as customized wine-and-food-focused shore excursions, where local varietals, cuisine and culture are enjoyed with a Zinfandel ‘lens.’ The cruises have traveled throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, South America. In 2012 Zinfandel Advocates & Producers offered its first cruise in North America, with a July 6-13 cruise to Alaska along the Inside Passage to Skagway, from Seattle to Ketchikan. From April 24 until May 4, 2013, ZAP will cruise through the Mediterranean Sea and the Greek Isles with Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Mark Vernon (President/COO, Ridge Vineyards), Nils Venge (Owner/Winemaker, Saddleback Cellars) and Julie Johnson (Owner/Winemaker, Tres Sabores) will be the winemaker hosts.

Past Board Presidents are Duane Dappen (D-Cubed), Bruce Walker (Starry Night Winery), Justin Boeger (Boeger Winery), Julie Johnson (Tres Sabores), Dr. J. Bernard Seps (Storybook Mountain Vineyards), Kent Rosenblum (Rosenblum Cellars), Joel Peterson (Ravenswood), Doug Beckett (Peachy Canyon Winery), Katie Quinn (Amador Foothill Winery), Robert Biale (Robert Biale Vineyards), Grady Wann, Donn Reisen (Ridge Vineyards).
