Cayuse's Insurance Company Sues Lafitte for Allegedly Selling Defective Corks

January 28, 2020

Underwriters at Lloyds of London, which insured Cayuse Vineyards LLC, are claiming damage of more than $3.5 million. Walla Walla-based Cayuse told its customers in the fall of 2017 that part of its 2015 vintage would not be released because paraffin material from corks were found in the wine. In its lawsuit, Lloyds alleged Lafitte delivered defective corks which "Introduced paraffin particulates, silicon and an oily film into the Cayuse wine, thereby contaminating the wine and making it unfit to sell in the wine market under the Cayuse branding."
