How Carlton's grain elevator became part of Oregon's wine scene

The 110-foot-tall grain elevator, the tallest building in the county, was home to the Madsen Grain Co. until 2003, when winemaker Ken Wright, a key figure in Oregon wine history, purchased it and turned it into a storage facility. A few years later, Doerschlag, who owns two vineyard sites in the Willamette Valley, was driving from town to town with his wife, Julie, looking for a location for their winery.
