The wine regions that were able to get past the barrier of not being ideally located, in regards to sales, typically found their success through significant amounts of outside investment or savvy marketing. That is why areas such as Prosser wine country in Washington state, known locally as the "Birthplace of Washington Wine", does not have the name recognition of so many other places.
