Wine Market Council announced today that industry veteran Steve Burns has been named President of the non-profit trade association. Burns replaces twenty-year Wine Market Council president John Gillespie, who will retire from the position at the end of November. Burns and Gillespie will work together over the next month to ensure a smooth transition.

Kosta Browne, the wine brand that defined an era of California Pinot Noir style, is embarking on big changes. This spring, for the first time ever, the Sebastopol winery will open a tasting room - a reversal of its long-held stance of exclusivity. And founders Dan Kosta and Michael Browne, who have been gradually transitioning toward personal projects for years, are officially stepping down from the company. Scott Becker, the winery's president and CEO, believes that Kosta Browne must now change or perish. "We were at the risk of becoming victims of our own success," he says. "To be relevant and successful for the next 20 years, we have to recognize that the consumer is changing."
