Two candidates out of 29 tested this week in St. Louis. passed the rigorous Master Sommelier diploma examination. One of the two was one of 24 Sommeliers who passed the Master Sommelier test in 2018 only for the results to be later invalidated when it was revealed that one of the exam proctors had shared confidential test information.

The controversial vineyard Craig and Kathryn Hall have sought to develop for many years in the hills above the Napa Valley floor may receive its final stamp of approval on Oct. 1. Relentless opposition has resulted in years of delay. Napa County's planning director issued a tentative approval on Sept. 21. It could become final Oct. 1 unless the public files an appeal. Walt Ranch is 2,300 acres involving planting 209 acres of vineyards, 316 acres of which would be disturbed with landscape construction.
