Arglass Southeast LLC, a subsidiary of Arglass Yamamura, plans to produce bottles for the wine and spirit industries beginning in November 2020. The venture is partnership between Cambium, an equity firm with holdings in Europe, Latin America and the United States and Japanese glass container manufacturer Nihon Yamamura. "We believe there is a need in the market," Arglass chairman and CEO José de Diego Arozamena told Wine Business Monthly

A power company has started cutting electricity to around 800,000 homes, businesses and other locations in Northern California, in an attempt to prevent wildfires. The region's utility company, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), has warned the shut down could last several days.

Ribera del Duero's ruling council has changed its regulations to allow the region's wineries to make white wines under the main DO for the first time in its history. The change, which was finalised last week, will allow the 315 or so producers across the DO to produce and sell white wines using the DO label on the bottle. Previously, white wine production in Ribera del Duero was limited to one protected geographical indication, Castilla y Leon IGP, and accounted for less than 3% of the region's wine production.

"This time of year you will get some early frost like what you see," Holesinsky said. "But that's fine with us because we've achieved the sugars that we want to for our desired style of wine." Despite that, freezing temperatures are expected over the next few days as a result of an incoming cold front. It's something that has spurred a sense of urgency in harvesting this years grapes.

The auctioneer said in a statement that the imposition of the additional import tax on French, German and Spanish wines by the US was a troubling move and had made it rethink its investment in the country and potentially opening an office there. While rewarding American farmers, the new U.S.-Japan mini-deal does not resolve differences over trade in autos. Trump has said the two countries continue to work on a more comprehensive agreement. Trump has threatened to impose import taxes on foreign autos, claiming they pose a threat to U.S. national security. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it will issue $16.2 million in grants (PDF, 325 KB) to provide training, outreach, and technical assistance to underserved and veteran farmers and ranchers.
