Assembly Bill 2452 which Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law on Sept. 22, gives wineries and alcohol producers the opportunity to post photos ahead of special events. The new law takes effect Jan. 1. Posting a photo of a venue was previously considered prohibited advertising - an illegal gift of "something of value" to the retailer under "tied-house" rules

To show how well a smoky vintage can turn out, Bernau poured samples of a 2002 Griffin Creek Syrah his winery made using Rogue Valley grapes. "Does everyone remember the Biscuit Fire that year?" Bernau asked. "That was a 500,000-acre wildfire, and smoke was so thick you could barely see from row to row in the vineyards. Sixteen years later, this wine tastes pretty good."
