According to the Wine Institute, 313 million cases of wine were sold at retail in the United States in 2007, including imports. At nearly 200 million cases, the retail value of California wine shipments within the U.S. were worth almost $25 billion. California's portion of the retail business represented 63% of cases sold and 56% of the $43.5 billion in total retail wine sales that year.
