Off-Premise Wine Sales Increase 3.1 Percent in October

Over $20 price point leads growth

Off-premise wine sales data increased 3.1 percent from the same period of the previous year in the 4 weeks ending October 15, 2011, according to The Nielsen Company-tracked data. In the 13 weeks ending during the same period, wine sales also increased 3.1 percent.

Domestic wine sales increased 4.5 percent while imported wine sales fell 0.4 percent in the 4 weeks ending October 15. In case volume during that same period, domestic wines increased 3.1 percent while imported case volume fell 1.6 percent.

In the 4 weeks ending October 15, most of the growth took place in the over-$20 price point followed by the $9 to $11.99. Wine sales increased 10.9 percent in the over-$20 segment and increased 7.6 percent in the $9 to $11.99 segment. In volume, during the same period, the over-$20 segment increased 9.7 percent while the $9 to $11.99 segment increased 8.5 percent.

Wine sales in the $15 to $19.99 and $12 to $14.99 price segments also had good growth. In the 4 weeks ending October 15, the $15 to $19.99 segment grew 6.7 percent in sales while the $12 to $14.99 segment grew 6.5 percent.

Wine sales in the $0 to $2.99 segment fell 3.2 percent and sales in the $6 to $8.99 price segments fell 4.7 percent in the 4 weeks ending October 15.
