Mendocino Winegrowers Seeking Input on Climate Beneficial Soil Health Vineyard Management Practices

by Press Release
July 12, 2017

Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa county farmers and partners are working together as the North Coast Soil Health Hub. Farmers are finding soil health is key to sustainable farming, enhancing on-site resources, and increasing climate resilient systems.

Mendocino Winegrowers encourages all of our grape growers to complete their anonymous online survey (see link below) and/or attend a round table discussion August 17th with Glenn McGourty for a more in depth conversation around sustainable winegrape production in Mendocino County. The round table is hosted by UCCE, the RCD, NRCS, and MWI.

The survey is part of a regional effort to develop a North Coast Soil Health Network/HUB that will provide support and technical guidance to winegrowers interested in adopting climate beneficial/soil health vineyard management practices. This survey is part of a regional effort to develop a North Coast Soil Health Network/HUB that will provide support and technical guidance to winegrowers interested in adopting climate beneficial/soil health vineyard management practices.

The purpose of the survey is to capture the range of climate beneficial/soil health practices currently in use, or barriers to their implementation, experienced by North Coast vineyard owners and managers. The RCDs, UC Farm Advisors, and the NRCS would also like to know what types of information and educational needs you may have on the topic of improving soil health.

Please note this survey is anonymous, so any information you provide will remain private. The survey responses will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Science Committee for the project.
