by Press Release
November 16, 2016

November 15, 2016 – ¡Salud!, a program through Tuality Healthcare that provides healthcare services for seasonal vineyard workers and their families, raised over $1 million during its 25th anniversary 2016 event season. The proceeds from this year’s ¡Salud! The Oregon Pinot Noir Auction held on November 11 and 12, brought in a new record of $911,300.

Ellen Brittan, ¡Salud! Steering Committee Co-Chair and owner of Brittan Vineyards, states, “This year’s event was especially impactful because we achieved a milestone of 25 years of service through collaboration for this truly unique program. The funds raised will allow our dedicated ¡Salud! services team to continue providing approximately 5,000 annual medical and dental encounters to workers at 150 vineyards in the northern Willamette Valley.”

The silver anniversary events included a Friday night ¡Salud! Cuvée Tasting and Big Board Auction, which drew a crowd of approximately 400 attendees to Ponzi Vineyards in Sherwood and generated $173,300. The Saturday Dinner and Auction Gala, which this year returned to Portland’s Sentinel hotel, welcomed 340 guests and brought in $738,000 through live and silent auctions, special appeal, ticket sales, and sponsorships. The two highest grossing items were a week-long trip to France and VIP weekend experience at Domaine Serene donated by Ken and Grace Evenstad and Château de la Crée, and a week-long New Zealand excursion donated by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Villa Maria. During the event, ¡Salud! presented the Los Heroes de ¡Salud! award to the founding ¡Salud! Steering Committee.

Since its founding in 1991, ¡Salud! has raised over $13 million. The program is able to deliver three dollars of service for every one dollar spent because of collaborative relationships with partnering healthcare organizations.

Cuvées included: Adelsheim Vineyard; Alexana Winery; Amalie Robert Estate; ArborBrook Vineyards; Archery Summit; Ayoub Wines; Beaux Frères; Bergström Wines; Bethel Heights Vineyard; Big Table Farm; Brittan Vineyards; Brooks Winery; Chapter 24 Vineyards; Chehalem; Cristom Vineyards; Dobbes Family Estate; Domaine Drouhin Oregon; Domaine Serene; Dukes Family Vineyards; Dusky Goose; Elk Cove Vineyards; Erath Winery; Evening Land Seven Springs Estate; Gran Moraine; Hamacher Wines; Hyland Estates; Lange Estate Winery; Patricia Green Cellars; Penner-Ash Wine Cellars; Ponzi Vineyards; R. About ¡Salud!
¡Salud! is a unique collaboration between Oregon winemakers and healthcare professionals to provide access to healthcare services for Oregon’s seasonal vineyard workers and their families. The program was created in 1991 by a group of Oregon winery owners and Tuality Healthcare physicians in order to address the hurdles faced by seasonal workers who cannot meet their basic health needs with only a few months’ income to stretch over a full year. The vast majority of field workers move from one crop to another, and their temporary status with each employer makes them ineligible for health coverage. Without insurance, these men, women, and their families often do not seek professional healthcare until their problems become acute. Their knowledge of basic health education is limited and they are overwhelmed by the maze of complex and confusing resources available in the medical system. The mission of ¡Salud! is to bridge this gap. Visit http://www.saludauction.org/.
