Oakland, California, June 21, 2015 – The Oakland Wine Festival announced on
July 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Rosenblum Cellars, the following winemakers will be presented with awards for their overall impact and influence in the industry and with wine drinkers worldwide: Vanessa Robledo, Victoria Coleman, Theodora Lee and Kent Rosenblum.
Vanessa Robledo: Vanessa Robledo is the former CEO and Majority Owner of Black Coyote Wines in Napa Valley. In the seven years she took over the reins, Vanessa established Black Coyote Wines as a multicultural wine brand with national distribution in 18 states and increased direct consumer sales and wine club 100 fold. Her Black Coyote Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has a stunning record of consistent excellence among critics. The 2007 Black Coyote Reserve Cabernet received 97 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and was selected as one of the “Top 100 Wines of the World”. All Black Coyote Reserves have won Best of Class, Gold or Double Gold medals from National and International competitions, including the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition, and XVII Concurso Internacional. Vanessa began working in the wine industry 30 years ago farming her family vineyard in Napa.
Victoria Coleman: Oakland Wine Festival celebrates Victoria Coleman of ultra-premium Napa Valley artisan producer Lobo Wines. Meet this Seattle transplant and rising star of the wine world who for years has been putting down prolific roots in the well-drained and rocky soils of the wine growing regions of Napa. A job at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in 1998 led to her discovering a passion for winemaking that is both intuitive and schooled. Working alongside some of the best in the business, including Michael Silacci (Stag’s Leap, Opus One) and Mario Bazán, she gained valuable hands-on experience and had a first vintage under her belt by 2005 (Mario Bazán Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon). She enrolled in the UC Davis viticulture program in 2006, earning her degree in 2008. Victoria was exposed to classic, Old World wine-making in 2008 when she worked alongside Erick Tourbier at Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, France. Her experience includes making wine at Jade Valley Winery near Xi'an, China, and upon returning to California, works closely with wineries as consulting winemaker. Victoria crafts the Lobo Wines brand award-winning Cabernet and Pinot Noir.
Theodora Lee: Some creative types who caught a glimpse of the silver-haired Lee atop a tractor dubbed her Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyard. Wine critic Robert Parker bestowed upon wine made from grapes harvested from Theopolis Vineyards a stellar rating of 94-96 points, a spectacular showing for the vintner's first harvest in 2006. Theodora Lee, a partner and trial lawyer at Littler is the founder and owner of Theopolis Vineyards. Her passion for wine began upon her arrival to San Francisco from Texas in 1987, primarily due to the influence of her law firm mentors, many of whom owned vineyards. Lee spent several summers hanging out in Healdsburg, and fell in love with the lifestyle – good food and great wine. This led Ms. Lee to take several viticulture classes at UC Davis, before deciding to develop her own vineyard. As the granddaughter of Texas sharecroppers and the daughter of a farmer who raised cattle, Lee was driving a tractor, with gusto, by the age of 8. Those farming roots clung.
Kent Rosenblum: Kent Rosenblum, also known as the “KING OF ZIN” created the legendary Rosenblum Cellars line of wines, which included 58 different wines from a single vintage. 28 of these were Zinfandels, with 14 single vineyard old vine Zinfandels and a number of quality regional Zinfandel wines. We consider him the Godfather of zinfandel. Kent Rosenblum, is currently the CEO and “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer” at Rock Wall Wine Company located in Alameda, CA. Rock Wall is a family oriented winery that has a focus on old vine Zinfandel, exotic Blends and sparkling wines.
