Registration Opens for Annual Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon
The 4th Annual Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon (www.destinationraces.com/runoregon) opened for registration on Wednesday, December 12. Beginning at 12:12 PST on 12/12/12, runners can sign up for this event, which is the fourth in the Wine Country Half Marathon series, produced by Destination Races. The race is held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, starting at Stoller Family Estate and finishing in downtown Carlton next to Ken Wright Cellars and Tyrus Evan tasting room. The trademark post-race Wine & Music Festival in Carlton features over 20 local wineries, awards ceremony, exhibitors, band, and food and beer garden.
The event is set in the heart of the Willamette Valley, less then an hour drive from downtown Portland, and encompasses four acclaimed wine appellations. Runners are encouraged to bring friends, family and running partners to spend time and enjoy this beautiful area and the scheduled pre and post-race activities. The race is staged on Sept. 1, with race activities beginning on Friday in Portland, with early packet pickup. The race expo is held at the Evergreen Aviation Museum on Saturday, Aug. 31. All registered race participants receive a discount on Evergreen’s attractions during the weekend. A 5K fun run will be held on Saturday at Evergreen during the expo.
“The Oregon Wine Country Half is a must run! You start with a beautiful sunrise looking over the countryside and through vineyards to end in the charming town of Carlton. This was my first Destination Race, and I'm so excited for the next one!” exclaimed Jenny Ostenson, from Indianapolis, after last year’s race. A team competition and Winery Challenge are offered for the half marathon and a 2-Person Relay option is also available. Special pricing is offered for early sign ups with $15 savings until Jan. 1, 2013 and $10 savings until July 1, 2013.
Matt Dockstader, President of Destination Races, is also excited about the prospects for this year’s race. “The post-race survey comments we received from participants were filled with overwhelming praise. This event is clearly the undiscovered gem in our Wine Country Half Marathon series. I truly hope more runners from the Northwest get to experience this fantastic event this year, as they won’t be disappointed.”
The Event benefits local and national charities and nonprofit organizations, including Carlton Together Cares, who provides the bulk of the volunteers needed. Event sponsors and partners include Oregon Sports Authority, Willamette Valley Wineries Association, Ken Wright Cellars, Stoller Family Estate, Yamhill Valley News Register, Fit Right Northwest, and Portland Marathon.
