Jackson Family Announces Purchase of Murphy-Goode

June 22, 2006

Jess Jackson announced today that Jackson Family Wines has signed an agreement to acquire all the issued and outstanding capital stock of the Murphy-Goode Estate Winery, a California corporation, for an undisclosed sum. The Murphy family will retain their vineyard holdings.

Situated in the heart of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley, the Murphy-Goode Winery has been making high quality Fumé Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon since Tim Murphy, Dale Goode and Dave Ready founded their three-family partnership in 1985. Murphy-Goode was launched with two wines: Estate Grown Fumé Blanc and Chardonnay. In the beginning, only the Murphy family ranch and the Murphy-Goode Vineyard, a joint venture between Tim and Dale, provided the grapes. Today the winery produces primarily red wines, including single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.

Spurred by the partners' enthusiasm and market demand, Murphy-Goode Winery steadily increased production, augmented with fruit from local farmers and neighbors. The winery's Reserve Fumé Blanc, Reserve "Island Block" Chardonnay, and "Liar's Dice" and "Snake Eyes" Zinfandel are considered by many wine authorities as great examples of Alexander Valley winemaking style and the appellation's terroir.

"The purchase of Murphy-Goode is a strong fit for the Jackson family portfolio and our expanding sales organization," said Jess Jackson, founder and proprietor of Jackson Family Wines. "As a friend and neighbor in the Alexander Valley, I have watched Murphy-Goode grow over the years, producing one exceptional wine after another. We all started in this business about the same time, and we plan to continue their historic family legacy of passion and commitment to quality."

"Over the past twenty years, our three families built a dynamic, stylish brand in Murphy-Goode Winery," said members of the Murphy, Goode and Ready families in a written statement. "We are pleased that the Jackson family has recognized our accomplishments and we are confident in placing our legacy in their hands." Jackson Family Wines is the new name of the Sonoma County-based wine producing, sales, and marketing company owned by Jess Jackson and his family.
