Increase in Hiring by Wineries May Indicate Optimism for Coming Months

Job Postings by Wineries in February Showed a Sharp Rebound from Prior Months

Job postings by wineries rebounded sharply in February.  Hiring is often considered a leading indicator of economic growth and thus, this increase may point to optimism on the part of wineries regarding future sales.  This optimism may be fueld by the loosening of Covid restrictions in many states, including California.

Although the number of jobs posted decreased by 13% compared with February 2020, this is a marked improvement over January, when the number of jobs posted decreased by 42% compared with the January 2020. 

 

The rebound in job postings by wineries in February was driven by Winemaking and Hospitality positions.  The number of winemaking positions posted which decreased 22% in January, declined by only 3% in February. 

Similarly, the number of DTC/Hospitality jobs posted by wineries, which decreased by 57% in January, declined by only 6% in February. 

Sales & Marketing postions, however, showed little improvement in February: these postions declined 40% in February versus a decline of 44% in January.
