Charles Krug Winery Lot Receives $10,000 Winning Bid in Premiere Napa Valley Auction

Napa Valley's Oldest Winery Donated 30 Bottles of Library Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon

Charles Krug Winery is excited to announce that its recent lot of library wines raised $10,000 in the Premiere Napa Valley Auction. On February 20th, Charles Krug joined a list of nearly 100 exclusive library wine lots up for virtual auction, replacing the traditional Premiere Napa Valley event that has taken place in February for the previous 40 years.

The Charles lot featured six decades of Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery, an iconic label from the region. First made in 1944 by Peter and Robert Mondavi at Charles Krug, the Vintage Selection Cabernet has since represented the finest grapes from the extensive vineyard holdings of the Mondavi family. The following bottles were included in the lot:

  • 1 bottle 1964 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 2 bottles 1974 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 1 bottle 1980 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 1 bottle 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 1 bottle 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 12 bottles 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley
  • 12 bottles 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection, Napa Valley

The Charles Krug lot follows their continued commercial emphasis on their library wines. For three years running, Charles Krug has made a limited number of three-packs available for consumers with bottles of Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon dating back to 1974.

This auction was held under the auspices of the Napa Valley Vintners, in conjunction with Zachys, with all proceeds from the Napa Valley Library Wine Auction benefit programs to promote, protect and enhance Napa Valley. In addition to the inaugural Library Wine Auction, the Napa Valley Vintners has moved its Premiere Napa Valley auction for the wine trade to June 1-5, 2021 and has begun meeting with vintners and volunteers on wrapping up Auction Napa Valley in its previous form while brainstorming how to leverage Napa Valley’s world class wines to care for its community going forward.
