Napa, CA--The Napa County Farm Bureau today released Fire Prevention Policy and Legislative Recommendations based of off extensive policy work that it has conducted over the last two years regarding wildland fires and fire risk mitigation.

The proposals and recommendations are derived from a series of comprehensive meetings with members and the community at large, including fire policy workshops hosted by the Napa County Farm Bureau.

As these recommendations reflect the concerns of our members and residents in general, the County of Napa is already implementing a number of these suggestions and we look forward to continuing to work with the county on these issues.

As noted in the Farm Bureau’s recommendations, one of the overarching recommendations and the policy most often cited as a hindrance to wildfire prevention is the strict state air quality enforcement that severely limits prescribed burning for vegetation management and bans the burning of brush or pruning piles. Members and residents have felt that the risks to life, health, and property presented by uncontrolled wildfires are much greater to society than risks presented by prescribed burns that responsibly reduce wildfire incidences and severity.

“This latest set of policy recommendations is part of an ongoing effort by the Napa County Farm Bureau to address appropriate and responsible actions needed to mitigate the impact of future fire events in our county”, said Ryan Klobas, Chief Executive Officer of the Napa County Farm Bureau. “We will continue to engage our membership of over 1,200 in this issue and continue to recommend policies that are supported by top experts in this field.”
