24th Annual Purple Foot Festival at Casa Larga Vineyards

Grape stomping and more on September 15
by Press Release
August 26, 2019

Fairport, N.Y.—Casa Larga's annual harvest celebration will be held Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., rain or shine at Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport, N.Y. Highlighting the Colaruotolo family's Italian heritage, the Festival features authentic, old-world grape stomping, earning it the name "Purple Foot."

The Purple Foot Festival offers more than old-world grape stomping. Guests can take their purple feet on guided hayrides through the vineyard and on winery tours. Last year's newest event, a grape pie-eating contest, continues this year. Participants will be able to sign up for the pie-eating contest on the winery's website, with first and second-place winners taking home prizes, for both children and adults.

"My Uncle Frank would always tell us they really did step on the grapes in Italy - but only the women. He said that their feet were gentler and made a better wine," explains Andrea Colaruotolo-O'Neill, director of marketing. "This festival commemorates that tradition while celebrating harvest and family. It's both an homage to our Italian roots and an invitation for all of Rochester to take part in this fun kick-off to the fall season."

Seminars at the Purple Foot Festival are fun wine tasting and wine pairing sessions offered throughout the day. Attendees will get a preview taste of brand new wines and upcoming new releases or taste wines paired with the fall-favorite flavor: pumpkin. One of the upcoming wines that will debut at the festival is a brand new product. A collaboration with Black Button Distilling, the new wine is aged in Bourbon barrels and will be available to sample and pre-order.

Fun for those under 21 there is a dedicated Kid Zone with kid's entertainment, crafts and a DJ booth for dancing. Kids will also be able to find a balloon artist traveling around the festival.

For everyone, there will be shopping with a wide array of vendors with family-friendly wares, including Jo Jo Socks, Rhino Chiropractic, Ravenwyne Mercantile, Bella Bags and Jewelry, Creations in Clay, Jade and Stone Jewelry and Charlie Blu statement pieces, Christine & Co Design, and others.Live music by Mystic Sisters from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Blue Skywill perform from 12:45 to 5:00 p.m. Adults can also enjoy tastings of Sangria, spirits and hard cider in addition to the wine tasting bars found throughout the winery grounds.
