The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) and the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation will host the 16th Annual Napa County Pruning Contest this Saturday, February 4, 2017. This event recognizes the importance of farmworkers and in 2017, makes history by including family activities, community resources, educational opportunities for farmworkers, and a grand celebration of those who are at the frontline of quality in Napa valley's vineyards.

Also new to the event this year, the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation will be launching its Summer Mentor Program in partnership with the Napa Valley Unified School District. This is an innovative 8-week program for Napa County High School students interested in learning more about career opportunities within viticulture and the wine industry.

The Napa Valley Pruning Contest is the only one of its kind to include a women's division, and the competition is expected to be strong in this year's contest.

To celebrate the 16th anniversary of this cherished industry event, an elaborate Mexican-style lunch is served and there will be festive music throughout the day. Contest winners will take home cash prizes, vineyard tools, gift cards, clothing, and many other valuable prizes. All participants will go home with commemorative wear and gifts from event sponsors. The top pruners of each division receive a one-of-a-kind Pruning Contest Champion belt buckles (women's and men's), engraved especially for the occasion.

The contest begins at 9:00 a.m. at Beringer Vineyard's Gamble Ranch on State Lane in Yountville. Those interested in participating may download entry forms at www.napagrowers.org<http://www.napagrowers.org> or request an entry packet from the Napa Valley Grapegrowers at (707) 944-8311. Entries must be received by February 3, 2017. In the event of rain, the event will take place on February 11.
