Before Oakville became an appellation, before Groth made the first 100-point wine in Napa, the vineyard was born from a family dream, the friendship of neighbors and a huge leap of faith. Over 40 years later, Groth remains 100% family owned and operated by the Groth family. Today, Groth sustainably farms two estates totaling 165 acres with the dual goals of production the highest-quality, most elegant wines possible, while caring for our estate for future generations.


POSITION SUMMARY

A Tasting Room employee at Groth Vineyards & Winery enjoys working as part of a team, has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, relates warmly with customers and co-workers, maintains a sense of humor, and remains composed in any work environment. The Wine Educator is responsible for enthusiastically delivering the Groth story, conveying our passion and enhancing the guest experience for all visitors to the winery.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Greet, welcome and share our story with all tasting room guests.
- Set-up, execute, and break-down tastings.
- Conduct small group walking tours and ATV tours of the winery facility and vineyards.
- Host multiple wine tasting groups at a time.
- Describe wines, winemaking techniques, and winery history; answer visitor’s questions professionally and accurately.
- Assist in enhancing long-term guest relations.
- Grow Wine Club membership by enthusiastically presenting membership benefits.
- Meet and exceed daily and monthly wine sales goals.
- Assist with the proper and complete opening and closing procedures for the winery.
- Efficiently handle routine purchasing transactions, which includes Operating Point of Sale, accounting of daily sales, processing returns, applying discounts, order entries,
inventory reconciliation, etc.
- Capture customer data and efficiently and accurately enter data into customer account.
- Keep the tasting room orderly, tidy, and inviting and alert management when tasting room inventory/products are low.
- Ensure proper protocol for checking and responding to email and voicemail inquiries.
- Provide general tourist information in person, through email and over the phone.
- Restock wines.
- Be present at all hospitality special events, as required. This may include modified hours.
- Wash and polish glassware for Tasting Room.
- Print and stock tasting room materials.
- Represent the winery at outside functions as required.
- Assist with display and décor of retail items and wines as needed.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/QUALIFICATIONS

- 1-2 years Winery, retail sales, hospitality or customer service experience required.
- Professional wine education/certifications are a plus.
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Outlook, Word.
- Knowledge of POS and reservations systems (WineDirect and Tock are a plus.)


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Flexibility and willingness to occasionally work beyond scheduled hours.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Acts to the Groth values.
- Strong code of ethics and high level of integrity.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly.
- Must have a valid CA driver’s license.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Must be at least 21 years old.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and key responsibilities of this position.

The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner at all times. Frequent operation of computer and other office equipment, the ability to sit at a workstation for long periods of time, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as need, and to occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee works in an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Occasional travel may be required.
