Position Purpose
The Cellar Master role will work closely with the winemaker to produce ultra-premium wine from small (1 ton) to medium (10 tons) batches that require close attention throughout the entire process, upkeep throughout the year. They will also assist with distribution and wholesale endeavors and provide assistance with general winery operations. The hired Cellar Master has the potential to grow into the Assistant Winemaker position at our 4,000-5,000 case winery.

What You Will Do
• Performs all aspects of cellar work, including wine transfers, racking, topping, filtering, bottling, sanitization, forklift driving and barrel work
• Carries out day-to-day cellar procedures in a timely manner in order to meet a production schedule
• Assists with training and supervising temporary employees, harvest interns and seasonal staff
• Assists with work order generation and data entry
• Oversees laboratory analysis, sampling, and management of routine topping and SO2 additions

The Cellar Master is where you bring your wine-making journey to Lobo Hills. You show passion for wine and the wine industry, seeking to continue to develop your craft, science and art in winemaking. You will have demonstrated leadership in your past positions, perhaps demonstrating the skill to see obstacles or opportunities, and propose solutions. You can physically execute in the cellar. You don’t shy away from hard work and you appreciate both working alone as well as with a cellar team. You are highly organized and able to prioritize effectively to meet production goals.
Additional Experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Two to four years previous cellar experience
• Degree or certificate in Enology or Viticulture preferred
• Ability to manage changing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, seasonal night duties, and periodic overtime
• Ability to drive a forklift
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Physical fitness with the ability to lift and carry up to 50lb, and to handle 100lb barrels
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
