Sparrow W & L Company has been in business for 100 years and is one of the most respected fine wine merchants in NJ, and nationally recognized by Market Match Magazine as a finalist for Retailer of the Year in 2019. Our two upscale stores encompass 12,000 sq. ft. in prime locations and are landmarks in Hoboken. We are a full-service shop that is also well known for our outstanding craft spirits and beer selection, as well as competitive pricing and a leading-edge website. Commute
Our stores are located withing a short walking distance to the Hoboken public transportation hubs, 15 minutes from Midtown or lower Manhattan and within 45 minutes of most of Northern NJ.

Position Summary
The ideal candidate is a passionate wine lover rising in the wine profession and looking for a step to the next level. The candidate must be self-driven and ambitious, have excellent interpersonal skills, solid to top-level wine knowledge, be able to multi-task and handle a fast-paced environment. Social media savvy a BIG plus. Expect to work some evenings and two out of three weekend days on a regular basis.
The ideal candidate would be one step away from Wine Director with a significant raise, as the owner is the current Wine Director and looking to delegate the position.

Required Qualifications
•  Must have 5 years’ experience in the wine retail industry
•  Technical knowledge of major wine producing regions and varietals. Test will be administered.
•  Strong customer service skills
•  Comfortable with social media
•  Professional appearance and attitude
•  Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite

Desirable but not required qualifications
•  Associate or 4-year college degree
•  WSET Level 2 or higher certification a big pus
•  Experience as a wine buyer in the NY/NJ market

Potential for growth
Position could lead the right candidate to full time Wine Director, a position currently filled by owner within one year.
