Job Description:

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Winemaker, this position will be a key member of the Duckhorn Vineyards Winemaking team by helping to coordinate cellar activity triggered by lab results and monitor fermentations throughout harvest.

The estimated time frame for this position is August 15th through November 15th.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•  Calculate and make harvest additions, including but not limited to yeast inoculation, nutrient additions, sulfur, and enzymes
•  Lead the red harvest additions team and manage pump-overs
•  Assist with fermentation monitoring via sensory and data analysis
•  Prepare weekly harvest completion reports; process and approve weigh tags in AgCode
•  Coordinate harvest supplies and scheduling including white lees filtration, lees tote removal, pomace bin exchanges, macro bin counts, dry ice delivery, and harvest lunches
•  Assist with and supervise new barrel receiving
•  Assist with cellar activities as needed, including but not limited to digging out tanks, sanitation, sorting fruit, washing bins, stacking barrels, and filling barrels

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•  Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Chemistry, or equivalent
•  4 years of experience in wine production
•  Positive attitude and ability to work in harmony with others
•  Must be a team player, be open to suggestions, and able to collaborate with others, with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
•  Must have excellent computer skills, including Excel and Word
•  Analytical and math skills required
•  Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and strong attention to detail are essential

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•  Regularly required to talk and hear through other distracting noises
•  Stand, walk, bend, kneel and crouch
•  Climb stairs and ladders
•  Sense of smell and taste required
•  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
•  Ability to lift 50 lbs; ability to lift items above the head
•  Manual dexterity required to adjust small cellar fittings or stack empty barrels
