The Senior Lab Technician performs advanced procedures for lab and production to support daily operations under the supervision of the Director of Spirits Quality. This position performs complex lab and production support duties. Lab support duties will include preparing samples, operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments as well as manual methods, performing analyses, preparing data, and maintaining the lab in an orderly state. Production support duties include validating compliance to finished goods specifications and adherence to GMP's through routine packaging line and package audits on finished products, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and inspection processes, and communicating with and providing feedback to production team members to facilitate process improvement.

Responsibilities:
* Daily maintenance and annual calibrations of lab instrumentation to ensure longevity of instrumentation and precision and accuracy in measurements
* Collaborate with Lab Supervisor to maintain records of SDS, SOPs, and training proficiencies
* Ability to perform sample runs on automated densitometer, alternate proofing devices, and lab distillations, including annual submission of TTB obscuration factors
* Responsible for creating C of As for exported products
* Use of in-house software to create work orders for sample requests, sample receiving, sample labeling, and sample disposal
* Maintain inventories of necessary chemical, glassware, and office supplies for lab
* Act as lead between Quality and other departments to investigate, evaluate, mediate, and/or take action on any problems, questions and/or concerns
* Utilize statistical methods to analyze data. Use data to make recommendations for quality improvements
* Makes recommendations in planning and scheduling of lab, line check, and inspection activities for optimum efficiency and quality, to include bottling fill tests and proof checks
* Train new hires on quality practices, GMPs, and Food Safety product quality requirements
* Recommends and implements ongoing process improvements that use technology and analytical laboratory best practices to maximize productivity and efficiency
* Audit data entry and record-keeping for accuracy (both manual and computer-based)
* Work with HPLC/GC instrumentation, including calibration, sample preparation, troubleshooting, and data presentation
* Performs inventory and hold transactions in SAP. Monitor release dates and execute in a timely manner
* Perform quality hold investigations on finished product to determine the affected timeframe of non-conforming product (to include sensory quality holds)
* Initiate DMR's for defective materials
* Enter and monitor OPE dates for quality issues for packaging
* Documents all defective materials and non-conformances completely and in a timely manner
* Conducts troubleshooting and investigations into non-conformances occurring during packaging
* Participate in continual education programs, as directed by manager, to enhance job performance and knowledge
* Contribute to keeping a clean and organized work environment
* Comply with safety regulations and procedures and use of personal protective equipment for working in a hazardous environment and with hazardous chemicals

Minimum Qualifications:
* B.S. in areas of Biology, Chemistry or related science
* 3+ years of experience operating, troubleshooting, and preparing samples for GC/HPLC instrumentation
* 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting,
* At least 5 years' manufacturing experience
* Knowledge of quality control or auditing procedures
* Strong technical and analytical skills with existing analytical and inspection equipment and up-and-coming technologies
* Experience with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing
* Must have reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications
* ISO or A2LA certified laboratory experience preferred
* Experience with leading quality investigations
* Experience working on bottling, canning, or flexible packaging lines
* Familiarity with SAP, Access, Intelex and Intellepac

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
* Works in warm/cold climates
* Works in high places including use of step-stools and ladders
* Works on wet surfaces
* Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals
* Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic
* Must be able to move up to 55 lbs
* Must be at least 21 years of age
* Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods. Lifting may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
