Job Description:

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Marketing and Public Relations Manager plans and implements marketing and campaign
development programs, both short and long range, targeted toward existing and new markets by
performing the following duties personally and through peers/external partners:

•  Research, create, implement and measure marketing and public relations plans that support
Sonoma County Vintners and Sonoma County Vintners Foundation’s business initiatives
•  Develop all written materials and communications (digital and print) including website content,
email communications, newsletters; responsible for distributing email communications through
Sonoma County Vintners email provider, Mailchimp
•  Prepares annual PR plans and manages PR activities; creates compelling story angles and pitches
to both national and local media including print, broadcast, and online; works with Director of
Marketing & Communications to manage Sonoma County Vintners national PR agency
•  Proactively develops strategic program initiatives that generate consumer and media engagement
•  Pitch consumer and trade media various story ideas
•  Cultivates relationships with key wine industry and lifestyle journalists at national, local and
trade publications
•  Identifies media trends, news cycles, and spin opportunities
•  Write and distribute news releases, op-eds, media advisories, talking point scripts and other
collateral as needed
•  Distribute relevant press clips and track press coverage
•  Work with the Creative and Social Media Manager to assist with creating written and video
content for social media as needed for the organization’s social media channels
•  Provide thoughtful, relevant and accurate topical research on key wine issues, business needs or
other program ideas that can contribute to meaningful results in communications planning and
•  Creates and maintains dynamic, targeted media lists; creates maintains and distributes press kit
materials and content
•  Supports special events, including on evenings and over weekends as required, to represent key
wine brands, pour at events, and engage with consumers, trade and media
•  Build strong and positive relationships with key wine and consumer/lifestyle/trade media, and
occasionally host wine critics, trade and consumer press
•  Work with Director of Marketing & Communications on marketing initiatives and advertising
•  Responsible for writing and editing Sonoma County Vintners communications and marketing
content as necessary
•  Conduct market research analysis to identify electronic commerce trends, market opportunities,
and competitor performance

•  Excellent attention to detail and strong organization and time management abilities
•  Possess existing relationships with key trade and consumer lifestyle media
•  Ability to work independently, solve problems, and multitask
•  Strong electronic communications experience; HTML preferred
•  Knowledge of WordPress, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and Microsoft Office software
•  Self-motivated and interested in helping foster a positive, professional work environment
•  Strong leadership skills, and ability to communicate effectively, and develop collaborative work

Education and/or Experience:
•  Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations,
Business, Marketing or similar field
•  5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or similar business role.
•  Wine industry experience preferred, as well as consumer/CPG or agency experience
Other Desired Skills and Abilities (preferred)
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated expertise as a writer
for internal/external publication, knowledge of AP style and other editorial best practices
•  Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
•  Hands-on knowledge of how brands work in social media

Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
