Job Description:

This position is located in Deming, New Mexico.

Daily Operations/Oversight

-Manages all activity of the Tasting Room/Retail space - Hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and overseeing the performance of the tasting room staff they are fully educated on the wines, winery, vineyards, upcoming events in conjunction with other winery staff and any other pertinent information that aids in customer service.
-Provides leadership to others through the assignment of work, review of progress, monitoring of results and instruction. Ambassador for wine education.
-Manages all tasting room scheduling and time sheets to ensure proper coverage throughout the year including staffing for events and ensures that cleanliness of the tasting room, patio, and all guest areas is maintained; exhibits attention to detail.
-Oversee the accuracy of routine purchasing transactions, which includes; operating cash register, accounting of daily sales, processing returns and tracking discounts.
Works with a tasting room team on wine and retail merchandise sales, i.e. pulling orders for customers, completing sales transactions and assisting with wine carry-outs and loading.
-Ensure all necessary supplies for tasting room operation are sourced and purchased.
-Work to establish strong relationships with vendors.

Training and Management

-On-going training of current staff members, the hiring of new team members and disciplinary management of all team members. Monitoring, coaching, and training to ensure all team members’ maximum performance is achieved.
-Help to communicate vision, mission, and winery story to staff through consistent communication ensuring guests are educated on the winery.
-Be the leader in demonstrating and delivering exceptional customer service.
-Maintain in-depth knowledge of our wines, our winemaking techniques, the vineyards, the brand, our history and the winery itself. Communicates these with clarity and passion.

Process, Shipping, Compliance, Inventory

-Develop and oversee customer service procedures, opening and closing procedures, POS, safety, and housekeeping. Ensure standard operating procedures are established and maintained.
-Works with winery operations and club manager(s) to oversee inventory and develop club programs.
-Ensure tasting room and inventory areas are clean, neat, and regularly stocked to ensure that displays of wine and other merchandise in the tasting room are attractive and maintained.
-Ability to delegate tasks to the tasting room team to ensure efficient and speedy completion. Experiences, Outreach and Marketing, Event oversight
-Ability to oversee the tasting room and its experiences exemplifying the high quality of our products.
-Deliver exceptional on-site guest experiences.
-Cross-training of all team members to assist and support other departments as needed.
-Create signage and menus in conjunction with the winery creative team for tasting room programs and events.
-Actively contribute to marketing efforts to help promote traffic to the tasting room.
-Participates in event management and oversight, partners with the club manager and events planner to develop activities that promote the brand and winery.
-Use events planning template to track budget and action items for events.

Business Management and Reporting

-Monitor sales goals, visitor volume, club sign-ups attach rate and oversees budget preparation and review.
-Develop incentives, sales promotions weekly that help drive additional incremental sales, wine club acquisitions.
-Monitor budgets for wages, operating supplies in relation to the tasting room cost centers.
-Responsible for tasting room wine inventories and ordering.
-Act as a member of the safety committee and are the head of safety for the tasting room.
-Conduct monthly training and ensures all hospitality employees are trained if required.
-Manages tasting room staff employee performance reviews, keeps the staff engaged and provides coaching for performance/growth.

Experience and Qualifications

-Three or more years of experience in a managerial role is required; with a winery, restaurant, retail or hotel experience preferred.
-Prior sales experience is highly desired. Self-motivated with the ability to problem solve easily and make recommendations.
-Excellent organization skills with an understanding of how to execute on winery business tasting room and hospitality strategy.
-Prior experience leading a team; must be able to demonstrate a prior track record of achieving goals and developing motivational plans for staff to achieve sales goals.
-Must be proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; prior experience with POS and inventory systems required.
-Wine club experience, preferred.
-Articulate, skilled in communication, presentation, sales and customer service.
-Must be 21 years of age to work in the tasting room per New Mexico law.
-College degree desired, but not required depending on credentials and experience.

-Valid ServSafe Alcohol certificate
-Valid Manager Food ServSafe

Physical Requirements

-Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
-Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
-Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
-Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
-Ability to stand for long periods of time.
-Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
