Quivira is a family owned winery producing handcrafted, estate grown Dry Creek Valley wines. We specialize in small lot wines from a diverse set of varietals ranging from signature grapes like Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel to lesser-planted ones including Counoise and Montepulciano. Our lots are tied closely to the unique terroir of our organically farmed estate vineyards.
We’re looking for a lab intern to round out our 2020 Harvest team. This position will work closely with the winemaking team to generate analysis and execute on fermentation actions. Ideal candidates should be dedicated to ultra-premium winemaking and be willing and able to maintain a high degree of focus and precision through long hours.
We encourage team-building as much as possible with our interns. During the first few weeks of your internship, we perform competitive set tastings with each of our wines to allow for a greater understanding of what we do. Lunches are provided on weekends and dinners (if needed!) are provided at all points during harvest. Throughout harvest, we share wines that we find interesting and try to expand both our palates and camaraderie.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Basic lab analysis including grape samples
• Installing new analysis programs and protocols
• Culture work and inoculations
• Additions and fermentation management
• Punchdowns and pumpovers
• Cleaning and sanitizing equipment
This position will be required to lift and carry 50 lbs., utilize basic arithmetic and measurement skills, follow detailed verbal and written instructions, work long days & weekends, stand for long periods of time, climb stairs and ladders and work in a safe and efficient manner.
