Assistant Winemaker

Job Description:

Small Coombsville Estate Winery is currently looking for a passionate, energetic, detail oriented individual to join our team as assistant winemaker. This position works closely with the winemaker and cellar master. General duties are described below but not limited to.

- Lab Duties include:
- Basic wine quality monitoring (including FSO2, VA, pH)
- Organize, sample, submit advanced analysis to ETS
- Recruit, train and manage harvest enologist on fermentation tracking analysis, execution and record keeping
- Lab equipment calibration and maintenance
- Lab results entering into Innovint

- Administrative duties include:
- Work order generation and management using Innovint
- Winemaking (cellar and lab) supplies inventory control
- Cellar and harvest staff scheduling and time card management
- Recruit harvest cellar workers
- Schedule and coordinate with bottling labor contractor
- Schedule and coordinate with equipment and facilities maintenance contacts
- Oversees winery safety program

- Winemaking duties include:
- Production schedule management (including scheduling bottling trucks and cross flow filter)
- Prepare bench top trials (including blending and fining)
- Prepare technical data of blends for sales team
- Timely fermentation monitoring (organoleptic, temperature, microbial)
- Train and supervise preparation yeast and ML build ups
- Participate in production tastings
- Cork QC testing, tracking and management
- Track enological trials (e.g. barrels, yeast, ML, etc.)
- Wine quality control point person

Minimum Qualification are:
- Bachelors in Enology, Fermentation Science or related science-based field
- 3 years premium wine production experience
- Exhibit acute attention to detail
- Exhibit discretionary and descriptive wine sensory skills
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability/desire to multi task
- Ability/desire to do cellar work when needed
- Ability/willingness to work long hours and weekends when called for to ensure wine quality (e.g. harvest season and bottling)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Wine chemical analysis experience
- Experience using Innovint
- Commitment to continuous improvement in wine quality and production processes
- Desire to keep up with current research and innovation in winemaker
- Fluency in Spanish
