Responsible for performing professional financial planning, accounting, reporting and analysis functions for Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Plans, coordinates and executes policy implementation applicable to the installation of improved financial operations. Coordinates with all levels of management, within and outside of the company, to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, budgets, trended future requirements, operating forecasts and similar complex financial matters. Interfaces with top management and responds to requests for financial data and analysis. Resolve reporting and compliance issues. Organizes information from a variety of sources, establishes data banks for use in analyzing and creating future plans and forecasts. Provide direct supervision over the Financial Accountant function. Provide functional and technical guidance to other financial staff members including the Payroll Timekeeper and Accountant positions.
People Management (25%)
Manages Finance Accountant position assisting with work tasks as needed. Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organization's and that emphasizes Brown-Forman's mission, vision, behaviors, and values.
Lead direct report using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.
General Accounting (20%)
Manage all bulk wine, grape, and miscellaneous sales/COS and other income/expense budget, projection, accounting, and analysis activity.
Prepare miscellaneous reports, surveys, and other analysis as required including Survey of Manufactures, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Cost Center Accounting (25%)
Oversee the preparation of all cost center budgets and projections and manage all related accounting, reporting, analysis, and reconciliation activities.
Support Grower Relations department with grape projections incorporating contract terms and pricing, volume projection updates, and review of grower payments, grape assessment fees, and related accounts
Manage external warehouse costs budgets, projections, and analysis
Analyze, develop and record budget and actual expense allocations between production cost centers.
Cost Accounting (10%)
Lead process to develop and maintain product standard costs in SAP and product cost estimates, monitor and analyze process order activity, confirm completed orders, prepare all standard cost accounting and reconciliation activity.
Maintain budget, projection and actual Costing Models to support standard cost and production variance calculations.
Manage bulk wine inventory costing and accounting processes and analysis. Monitor VINx2 bulk wine management system activity and other bulk wine and bottling reports.
Co-lead Sales and Operations Planning process including preparation, analysis, and review.
Prepare production variances budget and projections, record, analyze, and reconcile monthly activity and record month end inventory obsolescence and LCM reserve balances.
Coordinate development of capital spending budget & projections. Monitor, report, and analyze spending activity.
Prepare capital project financial justifications and audits as requested, coordinate placing assets in service and disposal of assets.
Coordinate and manage capital asset physical inventory process
Excise and Property Tax (10%)
Coordinate preparation, filing, payment, accounting, and reconciliation of Federal and State Excise tax payments and returns, including 5120.17 (702) and 5110.40 (DSP) TTB reports.
Prepare, review, and submit all business property tax returns. Review and process all property tax payments. Primary contact for property tax audits.
Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in finance and /or accounting plus 5 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to apply sound business judgment to analytical projects. Demonstrated ability to independently prepare financial and / or strategic analysis with accuracy and within an established time frame. Ability to independently plan, prioritizes, and executes multiple diverse work projects within the department. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external contacts. Must be able to influence others and build consensus around issues. Personal honesty and integrity. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly discuss business issues and translate into financial and strategic implications and action plans.
In-depth understanding of and experience with personal and mainframe computer applications in finance/administration environments, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP, or equivalent ERP system. Committed self-starter with ability to work a flexible schedule to meet deadlines.
MBA degree plus 5 years of relevant finance and/or accounting experience. Demonstrated understanding of Vineyard, Winery, and Inventory costing methods. Familiar with Brown-Forman business and interrelationships of organizational structure. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in quality and continuous improvements.
