Primary Duties and Responsibilities
General Winery Operations: Performs various routine cellar work assignments according to established quality oriented procedures under close supervision of senior cellar workers.
Juice and Wine Movements/Transfers: Sets up pumps and hoses to transfer juice and wine to/from tanks, trucks, and barrels. Racks or transfers juice and wine to/from tanks, trucks, and barrels. Ability to properly use dissolved oxygen meters. Lees filtering. Operation of the heat exchanger to properly warm tanks of juice or wine.
Winery Chemicals and Wine Additives: Knowledge of all wine additives and winery chemicals and their proper use and handling. Knowledge of chemical SDS warnings and proper safety methods of performing chemical additions. Ability to properly measure and add juice and wine additives.
Winery Sanitation and Maintenance: Cleaning and sterilization of tanks, presses, crush area, and other equipment. Cleaning the grounds, including buildings and equipment. Notify Supervisor or maintenance personnel of malfunctioning or unsafe equipment. Responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe work environment.
Barrels: Perform barrel work, including setting, emptying and filling, lees stirring, bung checks, additions, and scanning. Knowledge of the barrel room organization and barrel maintenance needs. Assists with the rotation of barrels throughout the winery, the receiving of new barrels, and the disposal of old barrels.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Bottling line: Dump glass, pack bottles, apply labels, attend equipment, and maintain a clean workspace.
Keep production areas clean and organized to set standards.
Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
0-1 years cellar experience.
Ability to communicate effectively
Attention to detail in the winery, from harvest to bottling.
Understanding of and dedication to cleanliness in the winery.
Safety conscious in all aspects of wine production.
Positive attitude and desire to work hard within a collaborative team to continually produce complex and exceptional wines.
Requires work schedule flexibility during harvest (typically from August to November).
Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and temperatures.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Seasonal/Temporary (August through November) with the possibility of Full-Time employment
