Job Title: Viticulture Intern

Time period: April 2018 through October 2018 (approx., as needed)
Time required: Variable hours; approx. 25-35 hours per week
Wage: Commensurate with experience

This is an internship with a north coast viticultural consulting and management firm. The intern will gain valuable insight into vineyard water management, nutrient management, pest management, canopy management, yield control, harvest decision-making and other aspects of viticulture.

The viticulture intern will work under the supervision of the viticulturist. Several tasks will be required of the intern, involving work outdoors, in vineyards throughout the California north coast and other wine growing regions of the state. Duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Water status measurement (pressure chamber, porometer, soil moisture) in vineyards
•  Tissue and soil sampling for nutrient assessment
•  Pest and disease scouting
•  Fruit maturity sampling
•  Vineyard observation
•  Data entry
•  Installation and maintenance of field measurement equipment (e.g. weather stations, soil moisture measurement)

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. High School diploma or equivalency. Specific studies in Viticulture a plus. Microsoft Excel and Word program knowledge helpful.

The job will require periodic lifting of up to 40 pounds. It will also require work outdoors, sometimes during periods of hot weather. Ability to use scientific instrumentation and to operate an all-terrain vehicle are necessary.

Ability to communicate orally and verbally in English.

Ability to perform basic algebraic computations.

Ability to identify potential vineyard problems, and to prioritize and accomplish field work in the most efficient manner.

Valid driver’s license.
